Abstract

Artificial intelligence (AI) is exerting influence on legal system by affecting various aspects of lawyers’ work such as predicting court outcomes. With the complex nature of legal proceedings, the integration of AI-driven analytics has become imperative to streamline judicial processes, improve transparency and seamless access to justice. This study therefore assessed the impact and challenges associated with the deployment of AI-driven analytics in the jurisdiction of intellectual property rights in Nigerian courts. The study revealed the challenges facing the jurisdiction of intellectual property rights in Nigerian courts as lack of ethical and regulatory concern, data privacy and security risk, technical expertise, high implementation cost, algorithm bias and inadequate government policies. From the findings of the study, the researchers recommended that government, stakeholders, and law enforcement agencies should establish comprehensive ethical standards, data privacy regulations, and transparency protocols to mitigate potential biases, ensure data integrity, and guarantee adherence to ethical and legal norms in AI technologies. Also, the Nigerian court system should foster interdisciplinary collaboration and information sharing among legal experts and technology providers to facilitate the development of technological advancements in AI-driven analytics. Government at all levels should establish Technology Monitoring and Evaluation Unit (TMEU) in the Ministries of Justice across the Country to organize capacity building and training programs for legal professionals, judicial personnel, and administrators as well as monitoring and evaluating its effectiveness in addressing the specific needs and challenges of intellectual property rights in Nigerian courts.
