CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PRIVATE AND PROPERTY LAW, FACULTY OF LAW, RIVERS STATE UNIVERSTIY
Theme: Colloquium on Private and Property Law Development in Nigeria
Date: Wednesday 20th and Thursday 21st of September 2023
The first conference of the Department of Private and Property Law with the theme: Colloquium on Private and Property Law Development in Nigeria held at the auditorium of the Faculty of Law, Rivers State University on the 20th and 21st days of September 2023.
Seven papers were presented during the conference with 294 and 188 persons (excluding 620 students) registered for the first and second days of the conference respectively.
A welcome address was delivered by Dr Anugbum Onuoha, DSSRS, Head, Department of Private and Property Law. The conference was declared open by its Chairman, Chief OCJ Okocha, SAN, DSSRS. The keynote address was delivered by Hon Justice Mary Odili CFR; DSSRS, (Retired Justice of the Supreme Court) and Chairman, Body of Benchers. The Conference generally noted that Private and Property Law addresses itself to diverse issues in society. These include equity and social justice particularly, gender equality; data protection and privacy rights; Alternative Dispute Resolution particularly in relation to family matters, property disputes and commercial disputes.
